Aug. 10th, 2006 12:26 pmI can see the funkeh new control tower at Heathrow from the window by my desk. Usually when you look around there's a plane hurtling up in the sky and rattling the windows over in Slough, but today I've not seen a single flight leave.
Shitloads of helicopters, though.
Just sayin'
ETA: In 1900, Harrods had a store in Buenos Aires. Now there's a thing...

Date: 2006-08-10 01:19 pm (UTC)The article I found the Harrods snippet in is here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4779479.stm) and it's interesting to see quite how completely the Falklands War poisoned our relationship with Argentina - when you consider the input Britain had - rightly or wrongly - into its development in the 1800s - railways, industrialisation, trade, immigration - there are still Welsh speaking communities in Patagonia to this day.

Planes are still going up, I've heard three so far.
