Everyone seems a bit jumpy, so for their benefit it might be as well to stick my head over the parapet and say hello. We're pretty well out in the sticks here and six miles from the far southern tendrils of the tube, so not immediately panicky. G8 related? Definitely. People seem to think it has something to do with the Olympics. Um? How about no?

You all okay?

Yes, I work in Slough (ick!) so nowhere near London and thank God I don't know anyone who is likely to be on the tube or travelling in the city this morning. It's horrible and obviously planned for all these explosions to go off at the same time. Why do you think it G8 related? I feel we've been expecting some sort of terrorist attack for a long time, ever since 9/11 and Spain.

Frustrating being at work and only able to read the news and not listen to it. Might go sit in the car and turn the radio on at lunchtime to get more up to the minute info. Glad you're okay. Hope everyone we know is too.

No, I'm at work using my laptop and the freakin' IT department make it impossible to download something like realplayer, which you need for that. But they opened up one of the big meeting rooms at lunchtime and put the television on BBC world news and we all trooped down and watched it for an hour.

Horrible.

I appreciate that there'll be time aplenty for editorialising on this, but wanted to respond to you by asking how it could not be G8 related? The date of the summit has been known for ages and presented a very high profile opportunity to conduct an attack when the world's eyes would already be on the UK. Al Qaeda and associates are all about maximising their PR. So sure, while I agree an attack was inevitable, I have to conclude that the timing of this is related to the events in Gleneagles.

Yes, by the time you responded to my comment I'd come to the same conclusion. Was a bit shocked and sickened this morning to think it through. Bastards!

Even though I wasn't too worried you'd have been in it, glad to see you're fine.

I figure it is G8 related, but that the specific timing one day after the Olympic announcement could be designed to throw London off guard, cause people to be afraid about hosting the Olympics. As in, if they were thinking of bombing anyway, they waited to make it a double punch. I just hope this is the end of this wave.

As everyone was so sure it was going to Paris, I really do think the Olympic announcement was just a sheer coincidence, although it worked out better for those fuckers that we should have been celebrating today. So, for sure it's the G8.

Ok, that makes sense. Given typical American self-centeredness, all the media here were sure it was going to be New York, and I hadn't bothered to care enough either way to pay attention to the discussion til I saw the squees on people's LJs.

Though, god, for all we know they had a plan in place for every possible city, and it was just a matter of knowing which one to trigger.

As for the Olympics link...why not the war link? Maybe it just happens to be around the date of the G8 meeting. It's only inevitable is it?
