The Usual Suspects
Kill Bill 2
Garden State

Was fantastic. Zac Braff is hot, in a dorky Jewish cute way. I actually wasn't expecting this to be a funny movie, so it was a really pleasant surprise for me.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Jim Carrey is not hot. I'm actually, however, in two minds about whether I liked this better than Garden State. I mean, this was the cleverer feature, without a shadow of a doubt, but Garden State just had something about it. But I need to know, American readers, was Kate Winslet's accent in that as accurate as I thought it was? I thought it was on a par with Renee Zellweger's British accent in Bridget Jones. I still know people who don't know she's a Texan.

It was fantastic, yes. I was duly impressed.

I watched Garden State yesterday and was very disappointed. Zach Braff is very cute, there are one or two funny things (like the knight in papery fast-food armour), but all in all it was a disappointment. Not terribly original, and with a cheap-ish too-simple ending.

Whereas I love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Even though Jim Carrey isn't hot.

The Garden State soundtrack is excellent, too, by the way.

I don't remember having any problems with Kate Winslet's accent. Review's buried somewhere in my LJ, I think.

I was torn between them in the same way. I think Garden State is maybe more relatable, or comforting, or something like that. Eternal Sunshine brings in a bizarre set of circumstances, but almost every positive review I read of Garden State on LJ talked about how much it hit home for them.

I thought Garden State far outweighed Internal Sunshine in movie goodness. I think it's because Internal Sunshine was so built up before I watch it, and whenever that happens, I'm never as impressed as I should be. I knew very little, however, of Garden State, expected it to be a Scrubish style comedy, and only watched it on whim. But I can honestly say that Garden State was my favorite movie of 2005 (as in movies I watched in 2005, Internal Sunshine also being in that category).

And yes, I'm a absent minded dork who used the wrong word. That would be Eternal. Yes, thank you very much.

I like Eternal Sunshine far better. It affects me deeply every time I watch it, whereas Garden State is pleasant enough but sort of limp and quirky-indie-by-numbers.
