Jun. 6th, 2006 08:37 pmAfter watching this week's Top Gear, in which the team gave the new C6 a run for its monnaie, I'd forgotten - icon notwithstanding - how much I really, really like Citroens. We had a 1987 model BX19 for about three years and it was fantastic. It had a wobbly plastic spoiler and funky headlights that you had to paint bright yellow with a little applicator if you wanted to drive onto the Continent, and there were little rolly blinds in the back and - best of all when you're six years old, which some say I still am - when you got in it made a wooshy sound and the suspension lifted it about a foot off the ground at the back. It was sky blue.
It was a great car until it rolled down a hill in Switzerland.
So, yes. Citroens are love. What was your favourite childhood car?
ETA: After checking it on Wikipedia, it doesn't look like there ever was a car called a Citroen BX19, and I suspect what we actually had was a BX 1.9 litre. So there you go.
